The Birdsong Forest

Pangot is where the serious birdwatchers go. Tucked into the forested hills just beyond Nainital, this retreat sits in the middle of dense oak and rhododendron forest — home to over 580 species of birds, including the elusive Himalayan griffon and the koklass pheasant.

But you don't need to be a birder to love Pangot. The forest here is ancient and quiet, the kind of place where walking feels like an act of devotion. The light filters green through the canopy. The trails are soft with fallen leaves. And every few minutes, a bird you've never seen before lands on the branch beside you and sings.
