Binsar, Uttarakhand
Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, Binsar
Most retreats are near the forest. This one is inside it. The Binsar Forest Retreat sits deep within the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary in Kumaon, at 7,600 feet amidst dense oak forests. The views are spectacular — a 300-kilometre panorama of the Himalayan range, from Kedarnath to Api in Nepal, visible from the property's terrace.
Binsar was once the summer capital of the Chand dynasty. Today, the forest has reclaimed it, and the sanctuary is home to leopards, Himalayan black bears, and over 200 species of birds. The retreat is a base for deep forest walks, birdwatching, and the rare experience of being truly surrounded by wilderness.
