The Wazir's House on the Highway

Three kilometres short of Jispa on the Manali-Leh highway, the Bhaga River runs cold and fast beside a stone manor house that has stood here for generations. Gemoor Khar is the ancestral home of the Wazirs of Lahaul — now a heritage retreat at 3,000 metres where the air is thin, the sky is enormous, and the landscape belongs to another geological age.

Lahaul is Himachal's last frontier — a high desert valley where apples give way to seabuckthorn and green hills turn to brown rock. Gemoor Khar sits at the edge of this transformation, offering a rare window into a culture and landscape that most travellers only see from a car window on their way to Leh.
